The Village of New Concord celebrated Arbor Day on April 26, 2013 with a tree planting at Chuck Gates Park. Council President Brett Essex conducted the ceremony and read a proclamation declaring the day as Arbor Day in New Concord. Mrs. Pollock’s second grade class from New Concord Elementary School then assisted the Village Tree Committee with planting a Pin Oak tree. The students learned the meaning of Arbor Day and the many benefits of trees. Pictures along with Essex are Council Representative Jen Bronner, Village Administrator John Huey, Police Chief Trevor Hayes, Reisbecks Grocery manager Mike Sanders, Community Bank managers Derrick Gingerich and Sue Wilson, along with John Morrow and Richard Payne. New Concord has received the Tree City USA award for 32 consecutive years for its continuing investment in public trees.
